Carburetor/Magneto Cores

What constitutes a good rebuildable core to PopinJohn ?
A good core (carburetor/magneto/distributor) is one that is complete with all of its attaching parts, and does not have significant weather erosion. Parts that normally wear or decay with use are not included in this description. Value of attaching parts that are broken beyond repair or missing will be deducted.
Regarding John Deere single or two barrel carburetors, broken or bad stem threads is not a deduct because this is a common problem that is repairable. If the stem itself is broken, most of these can be repaired if the broken part is present.
Broken flange ears will invoke a deduct, especially if the broken part is not available. In most cases, flange ear repair is possible if the broken part is present.
Missing parts or parts damaged beyond repair on a core will cause a significant deduct because the cost of replacement parts will eat up the margin that is needed for a business to rebuild a core and be profitable. In some cases, replacement parts are unobtainable and in this case, the core becomes a parts only core.
This is our opinion based on our experience, and may or may not be the same as others in the trade.
We buy good cores, so contact us if you have some to offer.
